Tye dye/clothes customization business - would this work?

Sure it could work.

But most artisans who sell their work online VASTLY underestimate the amount of time they spend writing listings, taking photos, answering questions from prospective customers, collecting payment, packing and shipping orders, sending tracking numbers, answering post-sale customer service inquiries, handling returns, doing the banking, books, buying supplies, remitting sales tax and paying self-employment tax and the list goes on and on.

There is a lot of nuts and bolts stuff involved with running an online retail business especially with the amount of volume you'd have to do to support yourself.

I was an eBay bookseller for several years and it took a TON of time - and I didn't even have to make the things I sold.

Good luck!

P.S. It's "tie dye" not "tye dye."

I'm going to be studying Fashion Design at college and I currently work in Retail (clothing) . I really want to start a small business idea and work from home as working from home would give me a better routine and lifestyle. I would still keep my Retail job to One shift a week just as a safe guard & I will be at college another 3 days. So i was going to spend time over 2 days a week - creating and dying tshirts and selling them through Social media/Ebay and Etsy. I think tye dye is something that is quick to make and would sell pretty well as I had a positive and big reaction when I posted some pictures of my work on Social media!

I could buy tshirts for say £1 or less and would sell them anything from £10-15.

Do you think this could work out as a possible decent business to allow me to have this as my proper self employment while still at college in the future?

*Over the next year or 2 id then want to make printed t-shirts and customized shorts etc.........Eventually once i'd finished 2/3 years at college i'd want to create my own clothes from scratch and sell them on a website.
