Starting Up A Dog Kennels?

With respect to Piran, just how often have you actually used a Boarding Kennel. For your 2 week Summer Holiday and the odd long weekend.

.My youngest sister is a 'Dog' person and has had a Boarding Kennels for almost 25 years now and she and a number of friends in her circle that also have Boarding Kennels all say the same, there is no money to be made in a Boarding Kennels these days. it is a bit like having a Bed & Breakfast establishment in a Seaside resort, hectic for a couple of months of the year and on tick over for the rest.

Who are these people telling you this nonsense. My self and everyone I know who have pets have used boarding kennels for years. What complaints. My local kennels are like a 4 star hotel for dogs. My dogs used to love going there. We now have a cat, she is treated like royalty in the cattery.

Why are you bothering with silly comments like that. The business is what you make it. If there are bad kennels then no one will use them.

You should be looking at kennels for sale and see how much their turnover is. Your main problem if you don't buy an existing business is planning permission and the money to start it up.

UK

I've been researching quite awhile now about the prospect of starting up a dog kennels.

I live in the countryside in Ireland, I love dogs, and all animals in general, But dogs above all. After growing up on a dairy farm, I'm quite used to cleaning at a ridiculous rate, taking car of sick animals, being up to the neck in regulations.

But I've always wanted my own business, and I've been stuck on boarding kennels for a long time now, I wanted to start a business with low risk, That I don't have to spend 100s of thousands to start and if I worked hard, didn't cut corners I could turn it into a real business, with a solid income, with room to expand, and grow.

But everyone says it's a waste of time, you just about break even on money, most of the time you don't make any money. You spend all your time there breaking your back for absolutely nothing, but customer complaints. I've also been on every forum and the general response is, no matter how good you are, no matter how much love and care you put in, everyone will still think you treat the dogs like crap. But I want this to be a full time business 24/7, With a good return on money that I can actually live on. Basically I'm just looking for people who actually own a boarding kennel facility to give me a reason to go for it!? Or is everyone right, and it's just not worth it, I'm at the stage now where I either go for it or call it a day.
