Original invoice not correct, am I liable?

No, you are not liable, they gave you an invoice which you paid in good faith and that is the end of it. If they forgot something on the invoice, it is their loss by law. Otherwise lots of crooks would charge their customers extra whenever they run short of money.

The garage would usually tell you how much it is going to cost before they do the work if they decide extra work needs to be done they should tell you 1st and quote you a price

you are responsible to check your invoice is there something that you know about that wasn't on the original invoice

its a month later though you've paid what you were billed its a mistake on the companies side they shouldn't be so careless when generating bills and why have they charged you extra a month later maybe the garage are using as an excuse to make some extra money

you have work done on your car

you then get an invoice for that work

You pay that invoice

thats it - end of story you aint liable to pay any more.

It may well be that the "correct" invoice should have included some parts , but thats irrelevent

They gave you a price(the invoice) and you paid it - that was the completion of the contract.

(the important bit is that you were presented with a bill after they had done the work. It was their responsibilty to ensure they had included all their expenses on that invoice. If they missed something off then thats their problem.)

If you were given a quote of 950 lbs on paper, before the work was started, and you signed it,

then you are not liable for any further charges. It would be their mistake.

If you agreed to the work, without a quoted price, then you owe the extra.

You might not hurry to pay it though.

As I understand it you should pay the amount you believe was reasonably due as soon as possible, so as to avoid interest and potentially also court costs, because if you contracted them to have work done then you are obliged to pay them for it (you can't 'get off the hook' due to an invoicing error).

If you can't pay the reasonable balance at the moment then by all means you could ask for time to pay.

For 500 quid though ityou might like to seek proper advice as to your legal standing, from a solicitor or Law Centre/Citizens Advice Bureau

Not here.

check your local laws.

Hi,

I had work done on my car and paid approx £950. A month or so later the garage came back to me and said they had under charged me as they forgot to include some parts onto my invoice and the correct invoice should be £1448.

Am I liable to pay this?

thanks in advance, steve
