I remember one episode....the QVC lady basically bought most of the guys company, but said, hey...I can sell these for you. Sit back and I'll make you a millionare.
Anyways, there is always the appeal of being on tv. It'll be your dinner party story for the next few years.

Necessary no. Most of these people are not just starting their businesses but have had them for a while. If you watch it many have also said they had first round financing with other investors.
The show is most definitely NOT necessary. It can be argued venture capital is necessary. There is NOTHING the 'sharks' offer on the show that they where not ALREADY providing before the show was even conceived.

The shark tank not only gives them capital, but it gives them contacts and tons of national exposure for free. While they might be able to find other capital they won't get the other two benefits.
The entrepreneurs on this show seem as if this is their only hope in starting their business. Do you think it's true? I mean if you truly wanted something could you find other ways of investing into your business. Whatever happened to the power of persuasion? I mean yeah it would obviously help but I feel that if you are a true entrepreneur you find how to get the capital in other ways then a tv show.
