Most members of the mafia would be on the payroll but obviously do different jobs than they are reporting
Also through intimidation they would get some of their members on other businesses payroll and again have them not work there actually

I'm not asking this because I want to start one or something, I have a nice 9 to 5, with the option of working from home, and I love my wife and dog, point is, i'm well off.
I just always wondered how do mafia's work? I've known people who sold drugs before I can see how they make a profit, but how do people use illegal activity to fund a whole organization.
When you see a mafia , you see them have henchmen on a payroll, like how do they circulate the money to fund a whole organization like that?
