How can you avoid debt collector's harassment?

Debt collection is big business. Such agencies are paid a commission on what they recover from delinquent accounts. There are many tools and services you can use to mitigate debt collection calls but unfortunately ignoring them is not an effective one.

I would start by contacting your creditors directly and working out a debt agreement. That is where you agree to pay a certain percentage of the debt back over time in exchange for a lighter or no impact on your credit report.

There are also a large number of debt consolidation services offered by banks and credit agencies. What happens there is the credit provider pays out some or all of your debt to creditors and you pay back the credit agency with interest. Like a loan. The higher the debt/risk the more interest you will have to pay.

Pay off your debt, don't buy things you don't need in the first place, that's how most people get into debt. Debt for stupid reasons. Use the money you have, not credit. With our current system, there is always debt. It can never all be eliminated, or else there would be no money in circulation. Good luck with that.

Here's a good news article on the subject
