Honestly, is Ebay a ripoff?

Yes!!!!! I completely agree! I sell on eBay. The price that my items usually sell for is around $200.00. They snatch 10% per item. Plus paypal fees. I just got my invoice this month....$249.00. not to mention the $70 paypal snatched. I am barely making a profit. I am giving up on ebay and creating my own website now. Screw that...

A sales site brings buyers and sellers together. Since buyers and sellers each look for whatever site has more of the other, it sort of forces a monopoly.

I remember in the nineties where there a bunch of companies competing with eBay. I've bought several items from Yahoo Auctions before they shut it down.

I don't use eBay much because most of the vendors won't ship to Canada the way I want them to. And because looking for reasonably priced stuff doesn't work well when I can't tell the "reserve price" auctions from the "real" auctions in the search choices.

It's a ripoff if you sell garbage & don't know what the H you're doing.

"I highly doubt you can even make 13% to get back what you paid for."

I routinely make 200% to 500% profit on what I paid after shipping and fees.

Stop blaming eBay for your problems.

Its really simple, if you understand their terms and policies and still feel that way, then stay away from EBay. Don't use it.

You wont make that profit if you are buying at retail and expect to resell at EBay with a 13% markup.

Yes

I have used ebay for selling and buying for some time, and I have pretty much concluded that ebay is ripoff.

First of all, when it comes to selling some of my things, ebay simply charges 10% on the FINAL price including shipping, at the same time, paypal takes another 3% for the transfer. It's understandable if Ebay takes a cut on your profit, but on the FINAL selling price??? Also that's not including listing fee, Buy it now listing cost money, an auction with reserve cost 2 dollars per listing. Now the question is, does Ebay really gives you the audience who is willing to pay more than 13% of the total price of the item that you are trying to sell? I don't think so. Unless you have something that is made by hand from scratch, or bought something at extremely low price that is unavailable in other people's daily life, or something that is extremely limited and demanding, I highly doubt you can even make 13% to get back what you paid for. Well, you can treat Ebay as a garage sell by listing your used item for a couple of bucks, I have never done that and I would believe you if you say you made more than a real garage sell, but the question is, if you were selling your item for 10% of what you paid for off your garage sell, do you even mind making an extra 5-10% on Ebay? So for those who sell with a mind of trying to cleaning up their junk, does Ebay really matter that much to you? Some says that Ebay doesnt side with seller, they side with buyer, that lead to my next point.
