The basis for greeting any customer is eye contact and smile. After that it's really a case of getting to know your customers, some just want to walk around and not be bothered, others will seek out help and look to start a conversation. What I found that helped me when I started out in retail 14 years ago was this simple line. My names 'Amanda' if you need anything I'm just over at cash desk/fitting room/by the door. Customers like a friendly regular face and don't feel as intimitated and push into sales if they feel they know you on a personal level. A lot of company's have guildlines you can follow and staff training so don't worry to much.
Awesome, thanks a lot Amanda.
I applied at a couple stores such as Zumiez, Vans and Spencer's and if I get hired, what's the whole customer greeting process? These are stores with relatively laid back employees from my experience, and I'm a laid back guy but I kinda want to do things right since it's my first jobber. I don't want to seem careless and I'm not about to sound rehearsed or like a robot either, so if you could help me out before the second interview that' be awesome, thanks guys.
