Am I getting scammed?

3 state attorney generals are suing Craig's list for being

complicit in rapes, robberies, etc.

I used to adore the site and now, knowing that the

Nigerians own it........I stay away

It's a scam

Read Craigslist's scam warnings page where they specifically warn users to ONLY deal with people they can meet face to face, NEVER give out Paypal details to anyone and AVOID ALL transactions involving shipping http://www.craigslist.org/about/scams

There are many variations of the Craigslist/Paypal scam:

1 - this article explains the most common version which uses a spoofed email that only looks like it's from Paypal http://consumerist.com/2008/10/30/how-a-... but in the case of cars it will say the money will not be credited until the 'shipper' picks up the car

2 - a version of #1 but the fake Paypal email will be for MORE than you asked for and you will be asked to wire the balance to the "shipper" or some other person through Western Union or Moneygram

3 – you get a spoofed Paypal email asking you to click a link to verify/accept the transaction, and that link leads you to a phishing site that looks exactly like Paypal’s home page but by logging in, you just gave the scammers your account details so they can hack your account and use it to pay for items online

4 - they pay with a hacked Paypal account hoping you ship the item or they or their “mover” or “shipper” pick up the item before the real account holder discovers the theft, reports it to Paypal and Paypal withdraws the money from your account

5- Paypal ONLY protects you if YOU arrange the shipping to the buyer's verified address. Scammers know this but hope you don't. So they pay with their account then either send a "shipper" (scammer using another fake name) to pick up the item or they have you send to a father/son/friend/etc overseas or in another state Then once they have the item or you have sent it, they file a dispute with Paypal claiming their email and Paypal accounts have been hacked and there is an unauthorised transaction. Paypal contacts you asking for proof of delivery to the buyer's verified address. You won't have this as the scammer either picked up from you or shipped to an unverfied address, and Paypal refunds the money and the scammer keeps your item and resells it for cash

And once the scammers have your Paypal account details they will use password hacking software to hack your account to “pay” their next victim

You will lose both your car and your money. And the police won't be able to find it as it will be immediately loaded in the back of a truck to Mexico or a shipping container to West Africa

NEVER sell to anyone who cannot pay you IN CASH and you sign the title over to them in front of a witness. If they don't want to carry cash, then meet at their bank and witness them drawing a certified check at the bank

On Scamslist?

I'd be VERY suspicious of this. I sold an antique car to someone from another country who never did come to see the car, but he sent me a cashier's check by FedEx Overnight from Bank of America and we made sure it went through before he sent someone to pick up the car. We spoke several times over the phone, and he was from Germany and his story was very believable and nothing was suspicious. He never was pushy about the money at all and told us to take our time about that so we were sure it was all for real. It all worked out for us, so yes, it CAN be for real SOMETIMES. I would tell your buyer you want a cashier's check from a bank that is local to you so you can take it there and verify the funds exist and cash it immediately. Or, tell her to have the guy who is picking up the car to bring you CASH. If she doesn't want to do either of these, then yes, it's a scam. Don't fall for it.

its obviously a scam

Total scam.

Taker Craigslist's advice and only sell face to face, bearing in mind that many payment methods can be counterfeited, in your case it could be a hacked/stolen paypal account.

One common scam originally using counterfeit checks from Nigeria involve your paying a portion of the check funds to the shipping agent, which turns out to be the sole objective of the scam.

scam

1000% scam. Just ignore that person and don't even reply or give away any personal info. Report to Craigslist and local police too if you want.

Of course its a scam. Stay the hell off of Craigslist.

Ok I'm trying to sell my vehicle on Craigslist, and I got an offer and here's what the email said.

Thanks for your response. I'm OK with the price $2,800, i will be paying through paypal and will add the 3.9% PayPal surcharge to the total amount am gonna pay you, hope you have a PayPal account and if not you can easily create one on their website at www.paypal.com and send me your PayPal email for the payment, I already have a private shipping agent coming to pick it up and send me your home address also for the pick up.

To which I replied saying: This sounds like a scam. Sorry if it isn't. But how do you already have a shipping agent coming to pick it up when you don't even have my address?

She replied: just try to understand me i said wen the payment is done paypal will have your email and your home address for the pick up..Hope you have a paypal email account for the payment?

What should I do now?
