A lady buys goods worthrs.200 from a shop. (shopkeeper selling the goods with zero profit).
The lady gives him 1000 $ note. The shopkeeper gets the change from the next shop and keeps 200 for himself and returns rs.800 to d lady.
Later the shopkeeper of the next shop comes with the 1000 $ note saying "duplicate" and takes his money back.
"How much LOSS did the shopkeeper face ?"
A. 200
B. 800
C. 1200
D. 1800
E. 2000
F. 1600
G. Other
...........................
I think 1200 . Because of fake 1000 and goods worth 200.
I have answered this question before. The answer is DEFINITELY only 1000Rs answer = G
The shopkeeper has lost 200 Rs of goods + the 800 Rs change that he gave to the lady. Total 1000Rs, For this he has a worthless piece of paper.
The transaction with the neighbouring shop is IRRELEVANT. The other shopkeeper gave him 1000Rs and later received the 1000 Rs back. The 2 transactions cancel out.
What you have to think about is what is the origin of the loss. It is the worthless piece of paper and is "worth" 1000Rs. Someone has made this amount of loss - Who is it? Clearly the first shopkeeper with 200Rs of goods and the 800 Rs change that he gave to the lady.
When he receives the 1000 Rs from the shopkeeper next door he keeps 200Rs for himself. Therefore when he has to repay the shopkeeper next door he gives this 200Rs back + a further 800 Rs. Therefore his only CASH loss is the 800Rs. Then add to that the goods he "sold" (200 Rs) and you get his 1000 Rs loss.
The 1000 Rs note is the cause of the loss. Therefore this is the amount of the total loss. All you have to determine is which party or parties make the loss or losses that TOTAL 1000 Rs. Here it is obviously the first shopkeeper only as he has the note in his possession at the end. Therefore HE has made the 1000 Rs loss, the lady has made 1000 Rs "profit" by exchanging a worthless piece of paper for 200 Rs worth of goods and 800 Rs change and the shopkeeper next door is neutral (having handed over 1000 rs initially but receiving it back later).
the answer is E: 2000
Goods - 200
Change - 800
first loss- 1000
second loss - 1000 (to be replaced as a result of fake money)
Loss = first + second loss = 2000
The loss is definitely Rs 1800/- . 1000 which the neighbouring shopkeeper took back and 800 which he gave to the lady. The 200 which he has with him is equivalent to the value of the goods which he gave away so it nullifies itself.
He gave away goods worth 200 and also gave away change worth 800, and now needs to give his neighbour 1000 so his loss is 2000.
