Should i file for chapter 13 bankruptcy?

Posted at: 2015-07-28
So a few weeks ago, i wrote 3 bad checks at the casino to gamble hoping that would win a little and put that money in my account, unfortunately that was a dumb idea, now ive lost that money and dont have that money to pay back neither, and now i dont know what to do, should i file for bankruptcy and pay back slowly because i dont want to be harassed by phone calls everyday. I called them and asked if they could set me up with a payment plan and they said they could only do 2 plans but i need more than 2 payment days....and p.s. i owe 2250 to the casino...i can only pay like 200 a month and i have bills to pay as well

Your legal fees to file would run more that just paying off what you owe. What an adult would do is get a second job for the extra cash, and find ways to reduce those other "bills" for a while so this bad debt can get paid off. Oh, and they would learn from this and not make the same mistake again.

You do not owe enough to file a BK.

It is also unlikely that you would ever be approved for a BK if this is the reason for the need.

Go find someone to give you a personal loan to pay the casino in full.

Go find a new job (2nd? 3rd?)

Sell stuff.

Contact Gamblers Annoymous to see if they have ways to help.

legal fees for chapter 13 cost much more than $2,250

p.s. - do yourself a favor and delete your question; you have admitted to writing checks with the full knowledge there were insufficient funds - in some states, that's a crime.

You might end up in Jail for fraud...this was bank fraud for writing checks that couldn't be cashed.

Good luck not having another bank account for the next decade.

You better hope they don't call the District Attorney and press charges. What you did is fraud and could get you jail time. Claiming bankruptcy won't save your criminal butt!
