Should I cash in or keep saving?

So I have 120 one dollar coins and well over 80 dollars now in quarters. Should I keep saving or cash them in and buy me something pretty, or put it in the bank where it's safer?

Deposit the money in the bank, but you might want to take a quick look at the dollar coins, if they are from the US Presidents series, to see if there is any missing lettering along the edges. Unlike other US coins, these dollars have the dates, mint marks and 'E Pluribus Unum' struck into the edge of the coin instead of on one side or the other. Some of these coins were erroneously minted with that edge lettering missing and they are worth some money. It's worth a little of your time to check.

Look at your quarters for anything dated before 1965. If you have any at all, each one is worth at least $2.50 just for the silver in them. No silver after 1964 and those quarters you can turn in to the bank.

I advise saving as much as you can and buying only what you need, until you have certain things you really need taken care of first - like en emergency fund to cover six months of living expenses in case your income stopped. If you're not an adult and are living at home, now is a great time to start to save for the expenses that will come - school books if you go to college, transportation and insurance - things you really need.

Life is for living so be sure to treat yourself, but it is also important to save for the future.

If there's nothing you particularly want or need, put the money in the bank.

Yes

put it all in the bank.
