near? probably not - it was supposed to become paperless with computers but we use more paper than ever
"World" and "Near future"? No. But a large part of the world will be, and quite a bit of it is now. I rarely have any cash on me at all, using credit cards for all purchases (maybe the rare written check), pay bills online, have direct deposit for salary and PayPal for occasional eBay sales.
All of this requires, though, electricity, cell phone coverage, and internet connectivity. This does not exist all over the world yet.
But I would say that in the not too distant future, just about anywhere you would travel where you would expect to have creature comforts, you could get by with no cash. You would only need it if you were to travel a bit more adventurously into lesser-developed areas.
Certainly
if you believe what the Bible teaches ( as people should do ) then you would know that there will be a time when cash, credit cards, etc will be useless - the only way to buy or sell at that time will be with a "mark" on the hand or forehead, commonly known as the " mark of the Beast "..............this will not happen 'soon', but it will happen
