My boyfriend likes to write out checks without telling me. I hate finding out on my statement or the app. I'm getting tired of it, he thinks it's no big deal and doesn't tell me because as he says "it shouldn't matter. Your account isn't negative." How the he'll would he know. I'm the authorized one under it. Its all my paychecks that are going into it, he's spending my hard earned money that need to use for groceries and things for the house like toilet paper, a new vacuum, etc. Not his stupid bar tab every time he goes out. I try and try to tell him, but nothing seems to get it trough his head that he can't just go in and steal a book of checks and write them without telling me. So, I got what I believe is all of my check books, used and unused, and I was planning on just burn in them to get it through his head that that's not what they're for. I use my debit card for things that I could use checks for. And cash for the small things. I don't have a shredder, so that's why I though I could burn them. Is there another way or is this the best method?

You can tell your bank to not issue any checks and ask your bank if it offers any "Security" where if any type of ACH check in store or online is processed that you get notified whether or not you authorized it...Naturally you have to act like a moron and tell them you think your checkbook got stolen...but in your case that shouldn't be too hard because any women who stays with a man who is deliberately breaking the law in their name (Writing a worthless check is a felony/Misdemeanor A) and hasnt stopped him or broke up with him is a moron....Tell him to get his own money and get a job if all he does is steal your money

Time for a new boyfriend instead of drunk thief. Burning your check books won't help, calling the police or telling the bank they were stolen will. He sounds like a total loser so kick him to the curb and report all your checks stolen to the bank. Tell him to pay back the stolen money or you will call the law.

There are 2 possibilities

1) you have a joint account

In this case it dont matter what you do with the cheques- he can go get another cheque book and there is nothing you can do to stop him

2) you dont have a joint account, and the account is in your name only

In this case again in this case it dont really matter what you do with the cheques cos he has no legal authority to sign them

if he DOES sign them then its bank fraud

If YOU sign them for him then you are an idiot.

you can do anything you want with the checks, first of all, you need to keep your financial matters away from this guy, change banks or do something that will not allow him access to your money

Keep the checks, burn the bf (so to speak). There are occasions when you need checks. [Like if you lose your debit card, and need money. You write checks - to merchants, to pay bills & then you have proof of payment, to CASH for pocket money,,,]

Why are you letting him use your checks in the first place? Get rid of them. Generally, you can burn things at your house.

your acct COULD become negative and why is he spending YOUR money - lock the checkbook away - or just cut off the lower right corner where the signature line is along with the last few digits of the acct number at the bottom - they will be useless then

There are bigger issues here than the existence of the checks. He will find some other way to scam you.
