Many banks offer "student" accounts that are FREE. They do understand that TEENAGERS don't always have a study income and won't always be able to have a direct deposit or a huge balance. However, for students under 18, it is often a requirement to have a parent on the account also.
I suggest calling Wells Fargo if there is one in your area. I know they offer FREE checking accounts to college students. They might have a plan for High School students also.
most checking accounts require either 1) a vast amount of money to stay in the account...like $25,000 for one of them I saw a long time ago, OR 2) direct deposit from a job (more common method). Otherwise they will charge you a monthly fee. that's not to say that no banks offer it...it may be as easy as checking around different banks.
I have seen cases where keeping thousands in an account might eliminate charges.
You need a parent to be signed as your account supervisor when under 18, using their bank would probably be simpler for them.
most credit unions have free checking accounts BUT you would need to inquire as to what the minimum age is to open an account
