Hang in there. There are unethical and ethical people in all professions. Good for you for identifying that early on. As a financial professional I can tell you there are a good number of honest people in the profession. If you want to go the financial advisory route, you may try getting in with a registered investment advisor, rather than a financial planner. The RIA will likely have set their business up to keep fees as low as possible for their clients. This means not selling many VAs or other "expensive" investment products. This also applies to the fund companies building said products. Hope this helps. You could also go to corporate finance, and work in an accounting department. Pretty straightforward. May not be what you want to do though.
I can't find a link to it but, NPR recently did a story that talked about how even financial advisors think financial advisors are unethical. I don't think most finance jobs are unethical but, I avoid financial planners because I'm convinced they have their own best interests at heart.
As someone who has worked in the insurance industry I have to say it won't be easy to do this job if you are worried about ethics. Sometimes the prices are high and some companies take advantage of clients, but you can also be an ethical worker and in your position bring positive reviews to the company.
