s this rolex a fake?

Posted at: 2015-07-28
also can you explain why in detail if it is?

Fake

1. All watches posted on Y!A tagged, "Is this fake" are fake.

2. The date magnifier is too small.

3. The second hand is too short.

4. Serial number should be visible on the inside of the bezel at 6 on watches made after 2005.

5. The silkscreen quality on that watch is terrible.

6. Take it in the dark. Fake Rolex face markers glow very distinctly green and fade over 30 min. A real Rolex uses a very different mechanism to make the dial markers glow.

You have a $5-$10 HongKong special there. Most American tourists pay about $100.

Shake it, and listen for the winding mass scraping. Turn the bezel. It will make a "ratchet" sound. Do not take it in the water. The watch is dirt cheap crap that will not last a month. The metal is toxic. Your skin will turn color. Possessing it in most counties can get you jail time. Toss it in the rubbish.

Hello, This is a counterfeit Rolex

1) The date magnification (Cyclops) is way too low it looks like it doesn't even magnify the date at all. On a Authentic Rolex it should have a 2.5 Magnification.

2) If you take a look at the lume it is very sloppy and it looks like it was rushed job.

Counterfeit goods support terrorism and child labor.

Hope this helps!

Scotts answer nailed it. I had to go to my Oyster and look and he was dead on. Nice job Scott!

This is a fake Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner Date Dive Watch. The real ones go for about $10,000, and the models without the date are about $2500 less.

The biggest giveaway is the date magnification - there essentially isn't any in your photo. In a real Oyster Sub, the date is centered in the magnification window (and does not magnify the graduations on the edge of the face) and the magnification of the digits is very pronounced. It's practically non-existent in your fake.

Another is the difference in black between the bezel and the face. A real one shows no difference in shade, and both are dead black. Not so in yours.

Want another? The ring in the end of the hour hand is thinner where it meets the pointed tip. Again, not so in the real one; the real one is absolutely perfect and round.

I've seen quite a few fakes in my time, but this one is particularly bad - very little effort went into it, so I'd have to say that it's intended for people who want to wear a fake Rolex. It's a $20 watch. A tip for future use - the appearance of all the details in the face of a genuine Rolex is absolutely perfect. If anything seems off (not quite centered, round, sharp or uniform), it's a fake.

If you are middle class and can afford the price of this watch then it's a knock-off. The real ones are super expensive, several hundreds to a thousand or so. Anyone making or selling knock-offs under the rolex brand could be jailed.
