how long should you stay in one company?

Posted at: 2015-07-28
i had co workers stay in companies for many years in jobs they "kinda" like but i never felt the need to stay in a company for more than two years if i don't like it

Is that bad?

It seems that you get fed up fast with any kind of environment. You love changes on frequent basis. This happens because of two reasons:

1) No job satisfaction or challenges in job

2) No good peer group.

If you are a young professional it's ok to change frequently as the job market now-a-days is like that. However, think about this in long terms. It will reflect negatively on your CV and later on you will find difficult to find a job as you are not a trustworthy person ( Do not take it personally, the HR says so to frequent job changers).

Get a career counselling done. Know your interests and aptitude and decide what you would like to do all your life. Hopefully than you will not be looking for any change.

might mke things pretty tough for you when you get over age 45 or so

In your 20s and 30s, if potential employers see a whole string of 2 year jobs they'll wonder about you, and many just won't consider you. They'll figure you're either a job hopper or a problem employee who keeps getting encouraged to leave

The highest quality startups tend to have their pick of the best talent, and they want employees willing to commit to the company’s cause. Therefore, the only people who will want to hire job hoppers will be the companies you shouldn’t want to work for. As a result you may get diversification, but a diversified portfolio of stock options that are not likely to be worth anything is a poor strategy.

Stay 2 years with enough companies and they will look at you as a job-hopper. You will have difficulty finding another job.

Personally, I feel 7 years with one employee is enough.

2-3 Years are more than enough. Switching jobs may be the clearest way to get a higher salary and boost your future earning potential. You could earn 18 to 20 percent more.

No, it's fine. 1-3 years is probably okay as long as you did well at your job.

Who cares? If you're in the sort of junior job where moving around does no harm, it doesn't matter.
