does this person sound dodgy to you on ebay?

basically, i sold a item on ebay for pick up only but the person is saying that they can only pay by cash on the day and they are asking for directions to my address, do you think this is odd? it is just this person says they know my area very well but they are still asking for directions? and they fact they say they can only pay by cash and not through paypal sounds strange.

Sorry, but your question is hardly logical. You advertised the item for collection only, how are they supposed to collect without your address? It is not particularly unusual for someone to pay cash on collection ~ the advantage for them is if the item is not as described they can just walk away. I have been ebaying for 9 years and have had many items for collection only due to size, weight or fragility and have never had any problem. No serial killers, no mugging, etc etc etc In terms of physical risk, you are probably more at risk meeting in a car park than at your home.

You know all you hear in the media is bad news. Good news is not news! So, 3 pensioners get mugged in your town in an month and it hits the headlines and your Nan does not want to leave her front door. What the news paper does not say is that in the same month 487,589 pensioners in the town did not get mugged !

Whilst the buyer may know your area well, generally, that does not mean that he/she knows every street. I consider that i know the small market town near me pretty well after over 20 years living here. in fact if i closely looked at a map of the town i would probably find that i actually knew 5% at most of it's streets.

You don't take paypal for collection only items.

They need an address to pickup from. They are not psychic.

I've been doing "collection only items" on ebay for a while. The ones where they they give you a contact phone and full address are great. Did one this very morning, and was able to text them to let them know of delays on M/way.

Did another few months back where "Part postcode is "XXX" you can call me when you are near and I'll give you the address. Well, I turned up at postcode and the stupid bastard didn't answer his phone. Complete waste of time.

If I were you, I would never give them my address. Either the item paid via paypal and ship by post or it is paid through paypal and meet the person in a public area.

You should be careful with people you don't know :) This person may attact you in your own house.

I wouldn't say where you live. If you want to go through with the transaction, meet in a public place like a coffee shop. If they refuse, they really want to know where you live. The answer is no.

This is Ebay not Craigs List... do not deal with people that do not have a PayPal and can not have the item shipped to them.

You might as well invite a serial killer to your house.

Meet away from your house. Carpark somewhere, coffee shop. Do NOT give them your address.

UK

its possible the want make they dont pass your address up

if they on;y have cash it should be okay
