So, why would ANYONE EVER hire ME for ANYTHING, including for the position of "Greeter?"
If their choice was to hire me to stay in business, or reject me and go out of business (thus, losing their own job), wouldn't it be better if they just go out of business?
Also, is there ANY way to convince them to hire me? If so, how so? If not, what do I do to gain an income?
If your capable of doing more demanding jobs for bigger pay, it might be worth looking into getting a scholarship or government assistance for schooling, some 3 year technical degrees pay quite well, you might not have a prestigious profession but it's possible to earn double those no skill jobs.
Getting a first job is always harder, since there's no record of you even being able to show up for work on time. And having no jobs for 15 years raises suspicion, if you do get to an interview you may stank of defeat, if you could go in with a positive and personable attitude, giving the impression of someone people would want to work with, the process may go better.
Some employers like Goodwill stores may be more sympathetic, remember it's not just for the money, getting that work history on your resume may make a big difference.
Here's a wield mix of careers that pay well and require 2 years of less of post high school education, just for inspiration:

First thing you should do is take a good long look in the mirror. Make sure you make a great first impression, be shaven, hair combed, clean clothes. Second, you sound desperate, no one wants to hire a desperate person (I am not saying you don't have a good reason to be down and desperate). Chose your attitude, by that I mean, chose to be positive. No one wants to hire a negative person. Smile. Look the person that is hiring in the eye when you speak. Listen to them, learn about the company you are interviewing with and ask good question. As for your resume, you need to start "working" the volunteer market. Get involved in not-for-profit organizations and donate your time. These are ways to gain experience and put something meaningful on the resume. Good Luck
Well, with this kind of attitude, are you surprised? You just ooze negative energy here. You're probably doing the same when you drop off an application or go to an interview. If you enthusiastically wrap yourself in the cloak of loserdom, guess what, people will think you're a loser. You can get a job - it does require some persistence and effort - but you have to want it, you have to believe you can do it, and you have to convince people you're worth the time. You also might stand to get some advice from a college career counselor - perhaps more schooling will help here. Not much you can do with high school, and minimum wage jobs will go to 16 year olds since they dont' complain about bullshit hours and wages that much.
for one thing, if you are trying to use your "resume" when applying, that is a big downfall - a resume is to show potential employers a person's work history ; therefore, you are like teens that have no work experience and don't have any possible resume.........next - what sites online are you looking at ? since 99.9 % of all companies now hire only from online due to their computer programs, you need to look at the right sites like : indeed, edjoin, careerbuilder, craigslist ( with caution ), your State and City job boards...........there are some sites that are a scam, like that snag site + others
You could go to college. You'd have something else to put on your resume, you will make connections, and you'll get a better job.
