Why the heck is redbox raising its prices?

What happened to 99 cents a day? I started using it because it was cheaper than blockbuster for the time I needed it but not its raising prices.

they are rasing prices because movie studios are charging higher royalties and they need to make a profit , what's so bad about a 50 cent bump anyway ? its still cheaper than renting a movie used to be at blockbuster video stores ( I remember it used to cost $4.50 so that's 3 times as high )

This is what my email from RedBox says

We want to let you know that starting next Tuesday, December 2, the price for DVDs will increase to $1.50 a day, and the price for Blu-ray? Discs will increase to $2 a day. Starting Tuesday, January 6, the price for video games will increase to $3 a day.*

This is only our second price increase in 12 years, and the first for Blu-ray? Discs and games, so you can be sure that we made this decision very carefully. We know that hearing about a price increase isn't the best news, but we feel it's necessary in order to improve your Redbox experience, while continuing to deliver the best value for new movies and games.

They don't use them. It's a matter of supply and demand. They want to make more money so they are trying to it by raising prices. Some people will stop using them or use them less, does that outweight the additional revenue they get?

Redbox has had multiple lawsuits regarding the selling of their customer information.

Many people believe the only reason they were invented was to collect customer information and sell it.

I guess no one else wants to buy the information so they make up the revenue another way.

I don't use them because I don't want my information being sold.
