It could mean the mail carrier didn't or couldn't leave the package on your doorstep (such as a signature is required for delivery), and there is now a pink slip in your mailbox telling you to sign for your package at the post office or to leave the signed form in your mailbox for delivery the next day.
Or it could mean some idiot at the post office put your package on the wrong truck, and it's been returned to the post office to try again.
You could get it sometime in the next week or two.
Or it could be your mail carrier marked it as undeliverable, and it is on its way back to the sender.
That happened to me to a very very important contract that was mailed to a customer of mine. He never received his contract, even though he received other mailings that had the exact same address printed on it after we mailed the contract to him. I lost the contract because by the time the mail room found his returned contract and mailed it back to him, the contract had expired and he refused to do business with our company anymore.
He was my biggest customer ever, and I lost my biggest customer because of the USPS.
It will say something like "Out for Delivery" when it's actually on the truck and headed your way.
Right now it's still in the sorting facility.
It's just the transport history. They marked it on every stop and where it was, what time, and what time it left that particular place. Those are all the places it traveled to before getting to you.
answer from "liberal" is partly correct............the thing missing in the tracking info would be "attempted delivery @ xx:xx (time) "...........w/o that being in the tracking info, a guess would be that for some reason the mail carrier did not try to deliver the item OR tried and did not enter an attempt of delivery at the time
