Yet we basically ran the operations, and his only job was to oversee we did our job, and he didn't even do that.
Why are salaries so unequal?
First of all, you have to consider take-home pay. At $40,000, you don't have a huge tax load. Your boss is probably paying half his salary in federal, state, and local taxes. So the difference is probably much closer to $35,000 to $75,000. Still a gap, but before you slam him remember the government is the one taking the biggest cut.
How do you know what your old boss made?
It's a good bet your boss risked and sacrificed for a lot of years to earn the position he's in.
It's a matter of what people will pay. If you're a great baseball player, you might get millions of dollars a year to play a game for half the year. That's because people will pay to watch.
Capitalism isn't perfect, but the dollar is color-blind, doesn't discriminate, and is the most fair system in the history of the world.
Salaries are unequal because of the different value each person brings to a company and the ability of the company to find a replacement. So if you do low value work and their are literally thousands of people that can do your job, you will earn a lower income. If you have a specialized skill or experience, you will be of greater value to the company and as a result you will be paid more. When someone says the boss ONLY over sees what operations does, I can assure you (having been a CEO for two different companies), you really have NO idea of everything that you boss does. He just doesn't sit in his/her office and twiddle their thumbs.
I had the same thing happen to me at my old job, but then I got a government contract job and do *NOTHING* all day long for the same salary.
its all good bro, its all good.
Maybe you should stop complaining and apply for the position then.
