Massachusetts Sen. Ed Markey's amendment to the Keystone bill would have prohibited oil shipped through the pipeline from being exported. It was killed by a 57 to 42 vote. Minnesota Sen. Al Franken's amendment would have required that the pipeline be built with American steel. It was killed by a 53 to 46 vote.

republicans are not against american jobs. While I don't understand why they did what they did, they do know that the pipeline wont bring in that many jobs. Lots of these bills sound right to us but in reviewing the legalese they get tricky and add something that isn't koshur and it's the little things that these days are getting bills voted down.

It's funny how for years Democrats were screeching about Middle East policy was only about the oil and the US should leave. Along comes a project that will allow the US freedom from the whims of the Gulf States and OPEC and it is the worst thing that the US could do. It would also provide numerous high-paying union jobs for the next decade, but that's secondary.
Markey's Bill defeats the purpose of the pipeline.
The purpose is to bring Canadian oil down to gulf coast refineries where it can be refined and the fuels sold here in the USA or exported, wherever the market demand is.
And if American steel is competitive, it will be used. So no need for Franken's amendment.
Remember, there's not only jobs building the pipeline but also in the refining of it at the gulf coast refineries.
I don't care if they're republicans or democrats. If they're giving our jobs away I just call them cock sucking bitches, and that's what they all are.
