So basically what does Ebay charge for? Does it charge by the amount of pictures you use? The amount of words in your description? How many items you have on sale? Whether it's an auction or buy it now?
I'd appreciate all helpful answers thank you!
Exactly? There is a lot. Listing insertion fees, final value fees, listing upgrade fees, etc. etc.
All your questions are answered by reading terms and conditions when you register in EBay
Read on exact rules on link below.

They even have a fee calculator.

Wow. You want to use their site for free? Doesn't work that way.
When you signed up, you agreed to the following.
Listing fees. If you list 50 items or less per month, you can usually get a pass and pay $0. On My eBay, when you click on "All Selling" and scroll all the way down, you will see what is available. As you list, each time you list something, it will tell you the listing fee before you hit submit. Based on your questions, did you even look?
Paypal fees. These are roughly 3%-4% and Paypal wisely takes the money out each time you get money.
Final Value Fees. These are roughly 10% of what the final bid price (and it includes shipping). The running total is visible in My eBay if you check your account invoice. This is billed once a month.
I'm an accountant by trade, so I keep track of the fees. I also only list items that if they sell, I don't lose money on them. Since I am selling my old stuff to clear up space, I'm less concerned with profit than with accidentally paying people to take my stuff. When listing, I take the shipping costs, divide by .86 and add the flat swipe charge Paypal has and realize that if I sell for less than that, I should just put the item in the trash. If I was a pro and purchasing things to sell, I'd add the cost of goods to postage and then divide.
You can analyze your previous sales by doing a spreadsheet and filling in the amounts from your invoices.
It does charge for more than 12 pics depending on category. Fees are described on the site. Read before you list. They take around 9% for seller fee of your sales+shipping price plus your Paypal fee of 3% of the payment made to you. Ebay doesnt take 80% of your selling price. No, to the last questions.
Its a bit stupid asking now what ebay charges are
You should have found that out before starting to put up stuff for sale.
And it aint ebays fault you only made £10 profit - its yours for not selling enough stuff, or selling it too cheap.
