In my opinion, Kmart had cheap prices but absolutely HORRIBLE merchandise and a HORRIBLE shopping experience.
I can remember Target coming to my neck of the woods in the late 80s and I thought I was in HEAVEN!
Now that I'm older and have more money I try to shop at local small businesses and/or buy local products from large stores even if it costs more.
I don't shop at WalMart. They really don't have them where I am (Seattle). I have been a few times when on vacation in small towns where there isn't anything else. Meh...
Kmart is a dwarf next to Walmart and Target. Kmart's has poor ethical standards in terms of customer service and terrible quality products. Walmart and Target have megastores that can afford to sell any product at a loss just so that Kmart will sell nothing.
Walmart came in and killed Kmart. They offered cheaper prices and better selections. They moved their stores in right next to and across from Kmarts. Walmart killed Kmart.
They're dirty, sloppy, understocked, and understaffed.
