Should I tell my boss?!?

I borrowed a very valuable vinyl record from my boss, but I accidentally dropped it and dented the corner of the record cover. It is a small dent. Should I tell him? Or should I just give it back and hope that he doesn't notice?

I think it is best to tell him as soon as you return it. It shows good character, that you own up to your mistakes. This looks good for you not only as a person, but as an employee. Most bosses can agree trust is very important to have in your staff. He may be upset over the dent, but if he discovered it without you owning up, he will for sure think less of you even more so for not being honest then for causing the damage. Just suck it up and do the right thing!

Does the boss know? If not, then I would tell them immediately and apologize profusely. Actually, if you did tell the boss that you were "borrowing" the record, my answer would be the same.

borrow? as in what exactly?

now, i'm a boss.. i have surveillance.... i'd find out sooner or later.

by the way that's not borrowing, it's called stealing.

Did you have permission to borrow it? If yes, then just own up. Accidents happen.

If you didn't have permission, you didn't borrow it. You stole it. And I'd still own up unless you want to get fired.

He will notice so it is best to tell him and admit the fault. Never try to hide mistakes that are going to be apparent as your fault anyway.

Chances are that he knows every square inch of that record cover.

You should tell him.
