Royal Mail Recorded Delivery?

Posted at: 2015-07-28
I sent a letter via the Royal Mail Recorded Delivery service. I've checked the tracking number on the website and it wasn't delivered due to no one being available to sign for it.

If the person goes and collects it from the sorting office, will this then be displayed on the website or am I left not knowing whether the person actually received it?

Yes, as soon as the recipient actually received the letter, they have to sign for it - whether its delivered to their address or they collect it - so it will show on the website.

if they don't collect it from the sorting office, then eventually it will be returned to sender.

Royal mail postie.

Yes as its a signed for item, however they get it (Redelivery, Collection, Post Office) they SHOULD sign for it.

However, could I suggest if you need a signature for legal reasons then Royal Mail Signed for is not the best service as items are usually only tracked from when delivery is attempted. If you wanted absolute proof that it was delivered and where it is in the system then Special Delivery although more expensive is a better option.

If the peson collects the letter then it will show up the time and date the letter was collected, or the prson can ask for it to be re-delivered again this will upon the tacking. If the letter is not collected then it will be returned to you, not sure but i think it is between 7-14 days they hold the letter before returning.

Don't worry about it, you sent it recorded so have proof of posting, it's not your problem whether it arrives or not.
