Model open call?

Posted at: 2015-07-28
Okay so tomorrow I'm going to a model open call. Its for the Dragonfly agency of Dallas Texas It's my first one and I'm super nervous yet kind of excited. I'm not sure what's gonna happen or what to bring. Should I bring my portfolio ?

If anyone could tell me what to bring (do I bring my portfolio or not) and like what goes on/what to expect that would be MUCH APPRECIATED!!

Thank you for your time,

Tay

Oh p.s. I'm also only 5ft6.5 ish tall. Will the agency not accept me because of my height?

Jake and bears is right about the money scams and how revenue is made, real modelling agencies do not charge you at all so if you're being charged, dismiss them and walk on out.

And it is good to call in advance as kitty said so you don't get put out or ignored for being too short.

However, I think photoshooting would accept people your height but runway....it'll take a lot of trying and failing most likely.

The agency has very specific height guidelines on their website as Jake says. Normally they will not even allow you in the office if you are not tall enough. At my old agency we had a marker on the door for 5'8" and anyone who was not tall enough in bare feet was turned away at the door and not even allowed in for the Open Call. Agencies are not going to waste their time seeing models who do not meet their minimum height requirements

If you were 5'8" you might get away with it but even in high heels anyone can tell you are not actually 5'9" in bare feet

You can always call them in advance to see if you can come to the open call if you don't meet the height requirement and they will be very honest with you. Calling is a lot less embarassing than just showing up and being told in front of everyone else there that you can't come in because you are too short

The site thedragonflyagency.com shows on the Contact Us page:

Women ages 15-35 // 5'9 to 5'11

Bear in mind that lots of agencies are really trade schools making their revenue from classes and photo shoots and not really from agents fees from getting you jobs. Worst yet some model ads targeting teens are actually Crime Gangs looking to kidnap kids into a new unpleasant life, bring along protection if the location seems at all shady. Their web site is about 3 1/2 years old.

Interestingly I saw an agency in Oregon has some of the same talent listed ask how that happens:

http://www.optionmodelandmedia.com

This sounds like a scam.

If you are asked for money for anything it's a scam. The most common is to charge you for photos, or to register or to go on their website.

All of these are scams.

Genuine agencies do not ask for money for anything.
