I scanned something twice at Walmart self check out?

Posted at: 2015-07-28
Ok so while in the self check out at walmart I scanned this $25 Olay face cream twice. I didn't even notice, but was obviously charged for it. I bought 20+ items alright, don't ask me why I didn't notice when I swiped my card. I was in a rush.

So now I'm stuck, will walmart really believe me if I come in saying I scanned an item twice? Because honestly, if a customer said that to me, for all I know they could've taken home 2 of the same item & trying to scam my company.

A friend of mine says to claim I forgot one of the "2 lotions" I bought in a seperate bag & to claim a new one, then return it for the $$ I spent on it.

I don't want to lie, but that story seems much more believable than the truth!

I'm honestly stuck, help!!

I used to work at Target, and while we didn't have self check outs, cashiers would occasionally scan an item twice by accident. In other words, the true story is something that the Walmart employees have probably encountered before.

Very likely, they'll believe you and be able to issue you a refund.

If you don't need the extra item then you would have to go back to the store with the item and return it with the receipt. Let the return desk know you made a mistake by scanning the item twice but you only needed one. It's probably happened before so they should believe you.

Even if you're in a rush try to pay closer attention to what you're scanning at self check outs.

If there is one thing good about Walmart, it is their return policy. I once returned something without even having the receipt. Bring it in and explain to the return desk what happened; bring the receipt with you and I don't think you'll have a problem. Ask them to take it off your card.

Well you see they have an inventory count. They know how many containers of that face cream are in the store, and how many are sold and on what day. It's all kept track of. If you go there and explain what happened, it may take some work but they will sort it out, don't worry. As long as you tell the truth, you'll get it sorted out.

I am not sure how they reconcile that, probably not be counting their inventory, they may take your word for it, if it's something people would not commonly buy in multiples Maybe they actually view a tape of your checkout, though that process may be too costly, those facilities are more for persecuting shoplifters.

Phone them first. Speak to a supervisor. Don't listen to stupid advice from 'friends'. Tell them exactly what happened and they will give you a refund when you present the receipt. It must happen to others so the store will not be surprised.

Usually, you scan an item and put it in the bagging area, and the machine detects the item's weight. I'm not sure how you scanned the same item twice without being told "please place the item in the bagging area", but no system is perfect.

I say go with the real story because no matter how convincing the "more likely to be true one" sounds it would probably be better to say the truth because its easier to seem honest when you're actually being honest (if that makes any sense)

It happens. It happened to me and they accepted it. Most worker don't even care lol

Just tell them you made a mistake and they have to give you back the money or you will cry.
