So my friends and I went to the mall after school and found a debit card on the floor. We picked it up and decided to use it for food. We bought $20 worth of food from two different places in the mall. Then we proceeded to cut up the card and throw it away in different trash cans. Is there anyway we could get caught? Like would they watch the footage from the cameras and track us down? We werent wearing anything that could identify us. I understand what we did was wrong but where I live, that **** happens all the time and is taken pretty lightly. I just wanna know if I'm gonna be arrested

You can be arrested for fraud. If you're under 18 tho, you'll probably get diversion if it's your first offense. So you're probably looking at 40 hours of community service. And you'll probably have conditions with your friend which means no communication, directly or indirectly; if you're caught with your friend, you'll be charged for breach of conditions. The first time I was arrested for stealing, I got diversion and had to take a theft class and I had conditions with my best friend for months until our last court date.

What I know that you can be tracked by IP for posting this message. You must know that FBI are monitoring your internet trafic. I think the police are already on it's way.

The shops have CCTV, if the card is reported stolen they can check the time it was used on the till. This is then checked with the time on the CCTV.

Shops spend millions on security. Just to catch people like you.
