General Delivery issue!?

I am trying General Delivery out with usps, and I went to my local post office to pick the order up but they said they do not support General Delivery and I can not get my package even though it is there already?

There are reasons they don't do this. Some of the same reasons that they don't accept stamped packages unless you bring them in to the post office. Any person could receive a package at the post office and there would be no accountability - you could order explosives and they would not be able to track you or the package down. You have to have an address in order to receive mail.

Now, if you want to get General Delivery from a post office, you don't just tell a mailer to send it general delivery and then you go pick it up. It doesn't work like that. In order to get general delivery, you have to go to the post office and fill out a form - "apply" for the General Delivery service. You will have to show a valid ID when you turn in the form. It is at the time that you request a form that you would have been told that they do not offer general delivery at that post office, if they don't.

So yeah, you did not follow the correct procedures and they will just send your package back.

Good to know...

There's probably not much point in questioning their policy, it is what it is.

If you lived in some remote place their delivery didn't go to or perhaps if you paid for a PO Box there you could get your package.

the general delivery feature of usps is only at a few stations aka post offices, and usually in a major city..............if you want to pick up your item you ordered at a usps station, then you would need to go to their website and request a "hold at station" after the item has been shipped by the seller
