Claiming against a removal company?

Posted at: 2015-07-28
I recently moved house and paid for a company to pack and move me. Which cost £900.

While unpacking the lorry at the destination, noticed that they had not covered in the van, 2 mattresses and my fabric sofa.

Once everything was in we noticed that on the single mattress there was dirt marks, but also blood from where one of the guys working on the job had cut his finger (we had to replace instantly). On one of the double mattress it was muddy on the bed and the corners. *Have yet to replace

Then on my sofa at the top and big black mark as well.

I spoke to them on the day and they said they will look into this. I emailed on the Monday (as we moved on the Friday) and have had no response since (which has been a week). I sent a reminder email yesterday and still no reply. I still have to leave a comment on checkatrade, do I use this in my follow up email?

How do I go about perusing this?

Send them your photos showing the damage...and threaten the small claims court if the company don't resolve the problems. If this goes nowhere contact your local district council.

You send them a letter saying that they have 7 days to reimburse you from their Insurers or you will start proceedings in the Small Claims Court.

Your contract with the company should tell you the claims procedure. Do it now because there is usually a time limit for making claims.

A friend of mine used to work for one of the biggest house movers handling damage claims. You wouldn't believe the damage these guys do !

Just put a claim in......Believe me, they are used to it.
