Can they really fire me for this?

I'm 27 and work as a saleswoman for a large art wholesaler. I am very high up the ladder given my age, and that has led to some jealousy among the women that work below me. Currently, my major account has been with a large Christian university. At a recent function with that group someone took pictures to post on our webpage, and one of them, apparently, includes my nipple popping out of my top. The top was not particularly revealing, but it had a built in bra top that was a bit loose (i had borrowed the top from my roommate).....but I never dreamt that it was loose enough.... And I still don't think it really was. I think it just happens to be an odd angle while I was standing at the wrong position and angle etc etc. Honestly, I don't know how my BOSSES can be convinced it's actually my nipple (and not just a bit too much boob)....but either way they think it is, and they are firing me for breaching the appropriate conduct and dress clause. I have NEVER been reprimanded for how I dress, in fact I've been complimented for how professionally I dress. This was a party/function so I was not as covered as I would be at work, and I do realize that given my client (christian college) teh stakes are higher... but this really was a one-time accident. It is extra troubling because the assistant who took the pictures and posted them before running it by me is one of the ones who doesnt like me. Can they really fire me for this? Is this really AS bad as they are treating it?

Do you have a union? Take it up with them or talk to a lawyer.

Next time when you have a clause in your contract then you make sure you check yourself from all angles and if you are dealing with religious people you cover up high and low.

I believe you need to tell them what you put on here and let them know if you had seen the picture before it was posted you would have never allowed it. Let them know it was barrowed and you had no idea that the picture or you were showing so much and the real person that was in the wrong was the one that posted it knowing what it revealed and not being responsible enough to keep it from public eyes. If the pic shows a different angle or that it is obvious that you did not show that much on purpose that should also be mentioned. Good Luck

They should have fired the person who took the picture and then posted it on public media. They compromised the company with the customer.

Sorry, but yes thy can. They can even fire you for no reason, or for any non-discriminatory reason.

Tell them exactly what you wrote here, and you should be fine.

unfortunately in many states, you can be fired for any reason
