Can I make money on dividends?

I have 1500$ and tradeking charges 4.95$ per trade. If a company has a 6% yield and pays out monthly, can I make 6% a month by buying the day before and selling on the ex-dividend date, assuming the price doesn't drop before I sell it? If not is there any way I can make money with them from my 1500$

No you can't, even if you could time the market every single time.

You're missing the obvious. No company pays out a 72% dividend per year.

If the company's dividend yield is 6%, that's ANNUAL yield. Even if they pay it out monthly, you get 1/12 of that 6% per month.

the price WILL drop - maybe not by the full 6%, but it WILL and I've seen it drop by more than the dividend, so there is no guarantee you will make ANY money doing that - you have to invest for the long term

A 6% dividend is per YEAR. Your $1500.00 will earn 1.5%, $22.50 quarterly or $90.00 a year. You are able to sell after the ex-div date and receive the quarterly dividend but buying and selling will cost you $9.90. so your profit would be $12.60 plus the stock may go up OR down after you purchased it. Hardly a smart, profitable plan.

You are trying to time the market, which will end up you loose money than you gain. for a small investor like you (and myself) you should consider diversifying your money through a long term investment instead of timing the market. companies like fidelity and vanguard have mutual funds and etf's that are diversified enough for you (and me!!). with that low money (I started with $1000) I found that any commissions will eat up the earnings, so I chose a mutual fund with low commission through vanguard and it seems it will work out good.

By the way I am not work for them or try to advertise them, this is my honest opinion as I was studying my options for 3 months and I did extensive researches before I choose that one.
