It depends on the person & the bank. I was a bank teller for a VERY short period of time back in the 80's. I hated it it, but that's where people start out at the bank. My neice & nephew however work in a bank now (different banks) and started as tellers but have successfully stepped up the ladder at their workplaces, one is managing/supervising others and one is traveling to all the branches, as a CSR. Banks have excellent benefits and many have excellent growth potential if you don't mind dressing up & helping customers all day.

They sack you for the slightest thing. Remember RBS? They didn't call the boss Fred the shred for nothing.
