Accidentally put wrong age on job application?

Posted at: 2015-07-28
I applied for shoprite, they called me today & I have an interview. I'm 17 & will be 18 in 4 weeks.. I put I was 18 on the application, I can't change it now ! Do I bring my ID ? & explain I accidentally put I was 18 instead of 17 ? But does it matter ? I'm turning 18 in 4 weeks.

You didn't ACCIDENTALLY put 18. You know it and they know it. Lying will make it worse. You could say that since you're so close, wanted to get the process started since it takes awhile to get hired. It's kinda lame, but better than "I lied" or "I don't know how old I am" which is what your "accidentally' idea would be saying. Yes it matters. There ae laws that apply to minors.

It's understandable that in 4 weeks you're legal. It should not be an issue. Bring it up at the END of the interview, not at the start. Remember you're not hired YET, so there's wiggle room.

It's not a big serious thing, just mention you wrote the wrong age.. I do all the time, funny enough I got interviewed not long ago and they asked how old I was and I said "30, no I mean 31" and I still got it...

not a big deal. when you turned 17 you were beginning your 18th year of life. many people think of their age as this actual year they're in. this will suffice if they ask you about it. they could even be impressed with this perspective.

They always wold want to see an ID before actually hiring you, if 18 is a requirement they may not be able to fudge the rules and hire you early.

bring you id and IF you are asked then explain...
