Accidentally left Walmart self-checkout without paying?

Posted at: 2015-07-28
I bought a few items at Walmart today for around $25 and checked out with the self checkout. I was talking on the phone while doing so and the store was hectic and crowded. I remember running everything through but I don't remember paying at all. I got home and didn't have a receipt. I'm positive I didn't pay and I have no idea what to do I am terrified it was a completely accident. Apparently I didn't look suspicious because even the worker at the self checkout smiled and told me goodbye when I left so I guess she didn't notice I hadn't paid. I have no idea what I should do or if it's even that big of a deal

What do you mean you have no idea what to do and yes it is a big deal. Although you didn't do it on pupose but you stole from the store. They will have record of the transaction especially at the end of the day who ever does the books and odds are you could get someone who works there in trouble and they might have to pay for what you did.

Depending on where you live, I'd go back there today/tonight with the items and tell them what happen and pay for them. Morally that is the right thing to do.

Check your bank account or your credit card account online. If you find a charge to Walmart, then you'll find out you paid for your stuff. Or, if you don't find anything that says you made a charge at Walmart, then you stole all the stuff.

And next time, try to pay attention when you're at the checkout lane. You don't need to be talking on the phone ALL THE TIME.

If I were you, I'd go back to the store to double-check, rather than have the police show up at your door.

Go to the customer service desk and explain as best as you can what happened that day and see if you can get them to print out a special receipt of everything that may have scanned.

They're more likely to be lenient with you for your honesty.

You could keep the stuff or do the right thing and call the store and tell them what happened and make arrangements to pay it

Give them the time you were in the store and approx the location of the register and they should be able to pull it up.

So you can do the right thing, or you can screw the store (your choice)
